Earth Day 2020: From Akshay Kumar to Dia Mirza, here are celebs who are working towards making the environment a better place

With the turn of recent events where a pandemic has brought almost the entire world to a standstill, many celebrities have also been talking about introspecting about nature and mankind’s treatment towards it. But there are other personalities who have been diligently working towards making the environment a better space. So let's take a look:

Pragya Kapoor

Producer Pragya Kapoor is a true blue environmentalist at heart, in fact, she has been indulging in some amazing activities towards the betterment of the ecosystem. From conduction beach clean-ups to tree plantation drives to hosting a zero waste birthday party, the lady has always been very pro-active when it comes to the environment. She has also launched her Foundation this year called Ek Saath - The Earth Foundation which is majorly a frontrunner in bringing awareness about the climate crisis, other than this the Not for profit organisation advocates multiple causes like tree plantation drives, animal welfare, beach clean-ups, etc. What is furthermore impressive is that Pragya is instilling this love for nature in her children too, we have seen in the past how she celebrated her sons first birthday with a beach clean-up drive. With such amazing efforts being put towards environmental causes Pragya surely has a long way to go on this front.

While he has preached about proper sanitation facilities in rural areas, he has also been appointed by the Uttar Pradesh Government and Mumbai Police to be the face for various campaigns. And his list doesn’t end here Akshay also is the brand ambassador for Government of India’s road safety campaign. Other than this the actor has also featured in a song called Hawa Aane De which spoke about air pollution.

The gorgeous Dia Mirza has been away from the big screen for quite some time, but the actress has taken up several environmental causes. In fact, she is the UN Environmental Goodwill ambassador for India. The former Miss Asia Pacific has been a supporter of environment for long and has endorsed causes like sustainable development, conservation of wildlife and several other campaigns promoting clean air, clean seas, climate change, air pollution, etc. 

John Abraham

Actor-producer John Abraham also has been an ardent supporter of the environment, majorly working towards animal welfare. Yes, the Romeo Akbar Walter actor has worked with PETA in the past towards a campaign that focused on abuse against animals. Other than this he had also been associated with an initiative which provided solar electricity to remote villages. 

Abhishek Bachchan

Actor Abhishek Bachchan also has been associated with several environmental causes. In fact, he has been lauded for his efforts towards fighting for climate change.  In 2012, he also won the Green Globe award and has been quite active in the environment front.  Urging the youth to help in tackling climate change issues, Abhishek has been very vocal about global warming and has expressed great concern about the environment in the past.

Richa Chadha

On Earth Day, Richa has made a video encapsulating a few things we can all practice to make a difference to nature. The video was simple and easy to understand for her fans of all ages. Admittedly, she’s vegan because of the damage caused to the environment by large scale meat production. Here’s hoping everyone can take a cue and learn to make basic changes to their lifestyles, so that the benefits of nature we’re enjoying during this lockdown, can extend even when everyone gets back to work. Her minute long video explains simple tips and tricks to help save earth. It’s not always about the larger things, small changes and differences can start at home. Her tips are easy to follow varying from making a small space to grow own basic produce like herbs at home or using recycled bottles of water instead of plastic or even avoid running tap water during brushing or segregating ones home waste or using kitchen scraps as compost for plants.
