Twitter shows no mercy on Anil Kapoor after daughter Sonam Kapoor Ahuja states that she comes from a world where women are treated as 'second class citizens'

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, apart from being a noteworthy fashionista, has been known as an actress who never shies away from speaking her mind, for the right. The daughter of Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor often makes headlines for her bold statements and this time too, it is no different. Sonam, who has been vocal about women empowerment, yet again spoke about the same during her interview with Harper's Bazaar Arabia.

Sonam, apart from a ravishing photoshoot, put forth thought-provoking statements. In one of the multiple posts the Neerja actress shared on her Instagram, she stated that a woman can't just be the 'poor little rich girl'. She further added that she had to make hard choices to pave way for others. “You can’t just be the poor little rich girl or feel sorry for yourself - no. I have to make those harder choices and pave the way for other women after me. My whole team are women - and we need to lift each other up. There are thousands of years of patriarchy to cut through,” Sonam mentioned in the interview.

However, in yet another post, when Sonam spoke about belonging to a side of the world where women are treated like 'second-class citizens', she, unfortunately, invited trouble. The actress, in the post, wrote, "For me, female empowerment is very important, especially because I’m from a side of the world where women have always been second-class citizens." Moments later, Twitter, out of the blue, began lashing out at Sonam's father Anil. So much so, her husband Anand Ahuja was as well dragged into the issue. While Sonam intended to bring to fore the discussion of women empowerment keeping India at the centre, Twitter found a reason to troll Anil.

On Twitter, one user wrote, "Very unfortunate to know that your family treated you as second class citizen" while the other said, "I never knew your family treated you this way Shame on Anil Kapoor ,Boney Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor etc"

However, Ashoke Pandit was of a different opinion. He said, "We thought you come from a family of illustrious people where everyone one is cared and loved. Sad to know that U r treated like a second grade citizen in your house. Though I don’t believe this because your dad is an inspiration to many. Self pitying is in thing these days"

Workwise, Sonam was last seen in The Zoya Factor with Dulquer Salmaan in 2019.
