Sappho is Kalki’s first child. Her boyfriend Guy Hershberg is an Italian pianist. Kalki named her daughter after a renowned Greek poetess of the name of Sappho who was born in the latter part of the seventh century BC and is known for the way she expressed affection for women in her poetry. She is the first person, in written history, to bring about the subjectivity of one's self and life. She talked about things rarely spoken aloud and wrote about domestic life, wedding ceremonies, virginity, motherhood and above all, her love for women, minus the male gaze and from a first-person narrative.

Her name and place of birth gave us the words Lesbian and Sapphic. The four-lines stanza style, known as Sapphic stanza is said to be invented by her.
