'Ayushmann Khurrana had been lobbying to get me on board,' says Jitendra Kumar on playing actor’s love interest in 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan'

National Award-winning actor Ayushmann Khurrana is is all set return with another film that defies formula. The trailer of his next film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is out, and it has received a big thumbs up from fans. The film features Ayushmann as a gay man in love with his neighbour, played by Jitendra Kumar, who is making his feature length debut with the Shweta Tripathi starrer Gone Kesh. Not to forget, Jitendra, a former civil engineering student turned actor, rose to fame by playing characters like Gittu (Permanent Roommates), Jeetu Bhaiya (Kota Factory), and Arjun Kejriwal, a spoof on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Much to everyone's amazement, Jitendra's first lead role is in a Hindi film which revolves around a gay couple and how they confront their family and deal with stereotypes and taboos associated with homosexuality. Recalling how he was in Bhopal for a digital show when he was approached for Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Jitendra told a leading daily that he was not apprehensive to take up the role. I met Hitesh two months after the offer came along. When I heard the narration, I realised how simply things were explained to the families in the narrative. I instantly knew I wanted to be a part of the film,” the actor shared, adding, “I discovered later that even Ayushmann had been lobbying to get me on board.”

Furthermore, Jitendra claimed that he met Ayushmann for the first time in 2009, when the latter visited the IIT campus as an MTV VJ to cover a cultural festival. Sharing how they have a same taste in music, Jitendra added, "Ayushmann is the biggest music lover I know. He knows everything about a song, right from the lyricist to singer and the composer. But he was impressed when I introduced him to the soundtrack of this Malayalam film called Kumbalangi Nights."

Meanwhile, Ayushmann's lip-lock with co-star Jitendra is the highlight moment of Gabru, the first-launched track of the upcoming comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. When prodded about it, Jitendra signed off by saying, “I am a reserved person, but Ayushmann made me comfortable. He is easy to work with and is quite friendly."

The film is scheduled to release on February 21.
