Kamal Haasan and Nagarjuna come together to unveil '83 poster in Chennai today; Ranveer Singh shares a glimpse

Ever since the first look of '83 reel-life captain Ranveer Singh came out, the audience has been waiting to witness the history that India charted in 1983 winning the cricket World Cup. Now adding to the excitement, the grand poster unveiling event will be held in Chennai in the presence of the real heroes of India’s Cricket team who brought the World cup home in 1983 along with the reel-life squad of the film 83. The Chennai event will be an extravaganza that will witness a huge turnout!

In a recent development, two legends of the industry who are well nested in the hearts of the nation, Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International and Akkineni Nagarjuna’s Annapurna Studios have come together with Reliance Entertainment to present the Tamil and Telugu versions of the much-awaited film. Now, Chennai will have the actors travel in a special bus named ‘Kapil’s Devils’ and a special 60 feet high installation will be put at the location. 

Talking about the new collaboration, Kamal Haasan shared, “I am extremely excited to present the Tamil Version of '83. It’s a matter of pride to promote the film that will recreate the moments of the iconic matches. Not just that, the victory of the Indian team demonstrates to every Indian that where there is a will, there is a way. What was considered impossible was made possible purely due to belief and conviction. And this holds true in all walks of life.” He added, “It’s my pride to promote a film that stands testimony to such conviction and will. I am happy to bring to my people the story of the team of inspired men captained by Kapil Dev who fought against all odds and won India’s greatest sporting triumph.”

Bringing the Telugu version of '83 to the larger audience, Nagarjuna expressed, “'83 is all about the great iconic win in 1983 that has made cricket a religion in India. It is a story that needs to be told and I am proud to present one of the most awaited films in India and the rest of the cricketing world.” 

Shibasish Sarkar, Group CEO, Reliance Entertainment shared, “As the film '83 is about national pride, we are overwhelmed to have the support of great superstars like Kamal Haasan and Nagarjuna to present the Tamil and Telugu versions respectively of the film. With their blessings, it will surely reach out to all the local audience.”

The film is being co-produced by Madhu Mantena, Sajid Nadiadwala and Reliance Entertainment. Ranveer will be seen stepping into the shoes of Kapil Dev. Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar, Jiiva as K. Srikkanth, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Jatin Sarna as Yashpal Sharma, Chirag Patil as Sandeep Patil, Dinker Sharma as Kirti Azad and Nishant Dahiya as Roger Binny, Harrdy Sandhu as Madan Lal, Sahil Khattar as Syed Kirmani, Ammy Virk as Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Addinath M Kothare as Dilip Vengsarkar. Deepika Padukone will be seen playing Romi, Kapil Dev's wife. It is slated to release on April 10, 2020.
