My parents absolutely loved the trailer of 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan': Ayushmann Khurrana reveals his parents' reaction to the film

Ayushmann Khurrana has created a genre of his own that busts stereotypes and takes on social taboos. His choice of cinema and their subsequent box office success has made him a bonafide superstar in India today. The actor will now be seen in Anand L. Rai’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan that focusses on same-sex relationship in which he plays the role of a gay man. The trailer of the film received unanimous appreciation and people hailed Ayushmann to be the first leading hero to ever portray a role like this while industry stereotypes have prevented superstars to back such important subjects that can affect social change.

Ayushmann is thrilled that his parents, father P. Khurrana and mother Poonam, too loved the trailer of the film and revealed that they saw it ‘on loop’ and enjoyed it thoroughly. “When I showed them the trailer of the film, they absolutely loved it. They saw it on loop and laughed all the way through. I was thrilled with this reaction from them because I realized immediately that the subject, my character has appealed and connected with them,” says Ayushmann.

The versatile star revealed that his parents were proud of him when he told them that he will back a subject like same-sex relationship. “I always talk to my parents about the films that I decide to do and I got tremendous support from them when I told them that I’m going to do Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. They said they were proud of me that I decided to back a film that had a strong message to society, told in the most humourous and entertaining way. They said it was an important film for the entire country especially the parents because it could give them the right message about raising their children.”

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan releases on February 21.
