A while ago, reports of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan being in talks with Pradeep Sarkar for the biopic on Bengali theatre personality Binodini Dasi did the rounds. While the actress's name surfaced as the top contender, it was being said that Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan were the initial choices of the veteran filmmaker. Confirming Aishwarya being approached for the film, Pradeep, during an interview with a leading daily, told that the Guru actress liked the project in the first narration itself and gave a positive nod. However, Aishwarya is yet to sign on the dotted lines but has given a verbal go-ahead.

"Aishwarya was always on my mind for the biopic. I did reach out to her a few months ago. In the first narration itself, she liked the story and has said ‘yes’ to the project," Pradeep told.

Adding further, Pradeep told that the film's story is a tough one to crack owing to the scarcity of material on her. He also said that a person from Kolkata is helping with the research. "It is quite a tough story to crack, as there is hardly any material to read up on her. I have a person who is helping me with the research from Kolkata," Pradeep added.

Speaking of Noti Binodini, she was born in 1862 and was under the apprenticeship of Girish Chandra Ghosh. She began performing at a tender age of 12. With her career span of 12 years and having done nearly 80 stage performances, Binodini took retirement. But, during her tenure in theatre, she won hearts with her European genre acts and was immensely loved by European theatre admirers. Soon, she acquired the title of 'the flower of native stages' and also had Ramkrishna Paramhansa watch her act at National Theatre in 1884.
