Contrary to Rajkummar Rao's claim to be the first choice for Vikrant Massey's character in 'Chhapaak', Meghna Gulzar says 'it is a media-created story'

Deepika Padukone's and Vikrant Massey's upcoming film Chhapaak has created a positive stir across the industry with its gut-wrenching and inspiring trailer teamed with a stellar cast. While it is a known fact that Deepika was director Meghna Gulzar's first choice for the lead role, did you know Rajkummar Rao was offered Vikrant's character initially? Well, that's what the actor revealed during an interview on a chat show. Rajkummar told that owing to dates issue, he had to step out and considered the film as a missed opportunity. However, when Meghna was probed on this during an interview with an entertainment portal, she dismissed Rajkummar's statement as a 'media-created story'. The filmmaker revealed, like Deepika, Vikrant was her first choice for Amol.

“That is something neither me nor Deepika said. It is a media-created story. For me, as I said, I instinctively start thinking of my actor. Like, when we were writing the character of Malti and by the time we reached the end of the draft, I could only see Deepika. Same happened with Vikrant,” Meghna told.

Talking about her experience working with Vikrant, Meghna said she always wanted to team up with him since the time she saw him in A Death In The Kunj. “I have been wanting to work with him since I saw him in A Death In The Kunj and we’ve admired each other’s work for so many years. For me, he fit my character, who is a guy from North India, a social activist, kind of dismantled personality but with a warm emotional interior,” Meghna added.

Produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika’s KA Production, Meghna and Govind Singh Sandhu’s Mriga Films, written by Atika Chohan and Meghna, Chhapaak is a tale of an acid attack survivor named Malti who battles against the social evildoers. The film is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020.
