'Used Deepika Padukone's craft in Chhapaak and not her star-power,' says filmmaker Meghna Gulzar

Meghna Gulzar's upcoming film Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in the lead roles has undoubtedly caught the attention of the nation with its riveting narrative that is blending with a heartwarming tale of an acid attack survivor. Inspired by the story of Laxmi Agarwal who battled all odds and emerged as a winner, Chhapaak is one of the highly anticipated films of 2020. Now, as the film is inching closer to its release, the team is keeping on their toes to leave no stone unturned to promote it. During one such promotional interview with media agencies, the filmmaker who is yet again sending out an important message through the medium of cinema, told that Deepika's popularity will allow the core objective of the Chhapaak to reach out to a wider range of audience. She further clarified that the 33-year-old actress's craft has been put to effective use in the film and not her star power.

"An actor like Deepika playing the part, widens the interest in the film because she is so popular, big and adulated that you will have her fans who want to come and see it. Have I used her star power? I think that is the function of promotion and marketing, which is not me. Have I used her craft? Yes," Meghna told.
