I'm not an evil person, it was hard for me to become this monster 'Sunny': Vishal Jethwa on playing a brutal serial rapist in Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani 2'

Debutant Vishal Jethwa, who plays a brutal serial rapist in the latest release Mardaani 2, says prepping for this film was a painful process for him emotionally. In a lengthy Instagram post, Vishal mentioned, "Sunny is a person no one should ever become. Our film warns of people like him. It was hard for me to become this monster Sunny, very hard." He further mentioned how he prepared 'really hard' for the dark character and stressed that he was exhausted after this process. "I was exhausted after this process because I was in a very dark place and I remember one day I couldn’t take it anymore and I broke down and kept sobbing for a long time," he added.

Inspired by true crimes against women by juveniles, Mardaani 2 sees Rani in a race against time to capture a brutal serial rapist, played by Vishal. Reportedly, Vishal searched for a lot of news clips about such criminals and in detail researched about their crimes and their state of mind while committing these crimes. While playing a negative character for his debut film was a tough choice for him, Vishal's role of the antagonist was accepted by the audience. Thanking them, he wrote, "Your love is a huge validation that I did my best. I will try and only do better from here on."
