Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe this was planned: Sushant Singh claims he was ousted from 'Savdhaan India' the day he went for anti-CAA protests

Actor Sushant Singh, who participated in an anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protest in Mumbai recently, has been dropped as anchor of the TV show Savdhaan India. Sushant on Tuesday took to his Twitter to share the news: "And, my stint with Savdhaan India has ended." He further termed it as a 'small price' to pay for speaking the truth.

Now in an interview with a leading news agency, Sushant said it was unclear whether he was let go from Savdhaan India because of his participation in the protests or there were budgetary constraints behind his firing from the crime series. "Contractually, it has to be a month's notice, but to shoot during that time or not is up to them. I don't want to link both these things. I went for the protest and then in the night, I got the message that this will be my last day of shoot. Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe this was planned. I don't want to speculate," he said.

Adding that he was informed last minute as he was not aware about budgetary issues earlier, Sushant mentioned, "If that is the price, I am more than willing to pay for it as it is about the future of my country, about kids. Maybe, I will earn less. It is a flimsy thing to even think about. I am hopeful, thanks to all the students and all those who are supporting it. We are not dead as society and collective consciousness can change things, we have seen that." When questioned if he asked the channel the reason behind his sacking, Sushant said, "No, I take things in my stride. Questioning becomes begging."

Meanwhile, a report in a daily quoted the channel sources as saying that the decision of Sushant's exit has nothing to do with his stand on the issue. "Sushant knew that his contract expires on January 15. He has completed the shoot of this season's episodes. So, his tweet came as a surprise to us. There is no correlation between the protest and his exit," a source from the channel added. Apparently, the channel is keen to bring a new host and is also planning to take legal action against Sushant for seeking mileage from the students' agitation.

The show currently airs on Star Bharat and the channel is yet to respond with an official statement.
