Ranveer Singh's-Alia Bhatt's Gully Boy out of Oscars 2020 race

Zoya Akhtar directed Gully Boy is undoubtedly among the best and relatable films of the year. The Ranveer Singh- Alia Bhatt starrer, not just appealed to the audience in India but also across the globe, so much so, it was nominated for Oscars 2020 in the Best International Feature Film category. And with barely a few months to go for the big day, the team behind the 92nd Oscar Awards announced the list of 10 selected films. Unfortunately, Gully Boy couldn't make it to the final race. 

The final shortlist includes categories namely, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects. The films that made to the race are mentioned below along with the country they represent.

Czech Republic: The Painted Bird
Estonia: Truth and Justice
France: Les Misérables
Hungary: Those Who Remained
North Macedonia: Honeyland
Poland: Corpus Christi
Russia: Beanpole
Senegal: Atlantics
South Korea: Parasite
Spain: Pain and Glory

As per reports, Indian films like Andhadhun, Article 15, Badhaai Ho, Bulbul Can Sing, Super Deluxe, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Uyare and Vada Chennai were submitted to be considered by the selection panel to choose one as the country's entry for the Academy Awards. 

Speaking of Gully Boy, the film starred Siddhant Chaturvedi, Amruta Subhash, Vijay Varma, Vijay Maurya, Vijay Raaz and Kalki Koechlin with Ranveer and Alia Bhatt. The story revolved around a chawl resident Murad, who amidst family and financial troubles, becomes a successful rapper with the help and support of his friend Moeen (Vijay Varma), girlfriend Safeena(Alia) and MC Sher(Siddhant). Gully Boy released on February 14, 2018.
