Alia Bhatt breaks down while talking about sister Shaheen Bhatt's battle with depression at 'We The Women' event

It isn't an unknown fact that Alia Bhatt shares an unconditional and indescribable bond with her elder sister Shaheen Bhatt. The actress, who stays with Shaheen in an apartment of her own, has stood like a pillar of support with the latter during an extremely tough phase. Shaheen, an author, came out in the open about battling depression at a tender age of 13 and penned down her journey in a book titled I’ve Never Been (Un)Happier. And for the same book, Shaheen and Alia attended an event held in the city on Sunday. Titled We The Women, the event was hosted by Barkha Dutt.

Alia, while talking about Shaheen's battle with depression and anxiety, broke down into tears. The actress, at the event, said, it was only when she read the book, she learned about the depth and hidden struggle her elder sister was going through. The Raazi star, who is five years younger than Shaheen stating that she felt proud of the latter and was heart-broken at the same time to know about her sister’s condition. Alia revealed that despite staying with Shaheen all her life, she only understood her emotions after reading I’ve Never Been (Un)Happier.

On World Mental Health Day this year, Alia penned an emotional note for Shaheen. “I am so so proud of you @shaheenb And of @herecomesthesunofficial. You have taken something so personal and made it a symbol of strength and empathy. No one needs to be alone as they struggle with mental health, battling their own fears and anxiety. Sometimes all you need to know that you're not alone!!! I'm here a 100%.. to start the conversation, to raise awareness and to join you on this journey, EVERY step of the way @herecomesthesunofficial #WorldMentalHealthDay," Alia wrote.
