'Not a psychological thriller, but 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' is a ghost story,' says director Anees Bazmee

Anees Bazmee, after making us all go rolling on the floor laughing with John Abraham's Pagalpanti, is back at the director's seat for the sequel of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Starring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in the central roles, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is among the most awaited films of 2020. And as the shoot for the horror film began in October, the excitement has shot up high. While the audience has been awaiting some further updates on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, director Anees, during an interview with a leading daily, gave an insight into what can be expected from the project. The ace filmmaker told the daily that unlike the prequel, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will be a ghost story and not a psychological thriller. He further clarified that the film is a standalone one with a different story and new actors.

"Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a psychological thriller, but the second outing is a ghost story. It does not take off from where the first part ended. It is a different tale, with a fresh set of actors," Anees told during the interview.

Talking more about the film, Anees said that staying true to the title, the makers have retained the backdrop of a haveli with several pathways to add to the theme. "We had to live up to the title, so there had to be some common elements. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is used to describe a maze, so the film has to be set in a sprawling haveli with several pathways," Anees added.

The prequel was directed by Priyadarshan and featured Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar and Shiney Ahuja in central roles along with Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and others in important roles. The film was inspired by Rajinikanth's 2005 Tamil film Chandramukhi, which itself was a remake of Mohanlal's 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazu. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, apart from Kartik and Kiara, stars Tabu. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani and is scheduled to release on July 31, 2020.
