The eldest daughter of Kamal Haasan and Sarika, Shruti Haasan, during her appearance on the South edition of Feet Up With The Stars hosted by Lakshmi Manchu, opened up about facing alcoholism and said she has been suffering from health issues for quite some time now. The actress, adding further, said that it has been two years since she has stopped consuming alcohol and is currently leading a 'sober lifestyle'.
“Yeah, I was a big-time whiskey lover. I have taken a break and decided to stop everything. This is a new change for me. I don’t drink anymore. It’s been two years. Personally, I live a sober life now," Shruti told during the chat.
She further went on to add that she didn't want to share her personal illness with outsiders or even friends. She also told that people began fat-shaming her while she was in the process of healing. “I was also unwell. I haven’t spoken about it but I had a medical condition. And you can't talk about these things. People are always saying, 'Shruti has become fat'. I was trying to heal myself. I stopped caring about what people were saying. I had to figure it all out. I took a one year break,” Shruti said.
Speaking about her career struggles, Shruti, who made her Bollywood debut in 2009 with Luck, told, "In my career too I felt I was doing the same kind of roles. I felt it was time I took a break. I wanted to re-establish my connect with my audience."
Earlier this year, Shruti broke up with her Italian boyfriend Michael Corsale after dating him for two years.
