Karan Johar, on Thursday, took the Internet by storm after he made an announcement about the third lead in Dostana 2, a newbie named Lakshya. The filmmaker finally put to rest all speculations of bringing forward some established face or a star kid by introducing Lakshya to the world of cinema. However, unaware of the fact that the actor has no filmi connections, trollers began slamming Karan for giving the plum role to a person affiliated to the cinema. Calling Lakshya a product of 'nepotism', people flooded the filmmaker's account with queries such as ‘who is this star kid’ and 'what are his film industry connections'.

Soon after this news spread like wildfire and in order to shut nepotism calls, Karan came out with a clarification on his Twitter account. In the clarification, he said Lakshya went through proper auditions for the role and doesn't have any connection in films. He also added that Yash Raj Films' casting director Shanoo Sharma played the catalyst between Karan and Lakshya. "Yes I woke up to several inquiries asking about his film industry connections!!! He is NOT from the business and went through a legit audition process !! Am grateful to Shanoo Sharma for introducing LAKSHYA to @DharmaMovies," Karan wrote.
