'My friendship with him has nothing to do with work': Govinda talks about his relationship with Salman Khan

Partner co-stars Govinda's and Salman Khan's friendship status has been a point of gossip for several years now. The actors, earlier known to be great friends, experienced bitterness in their relationship a couple of years ago and since then, the audience is craving to see the stars light up the screen together. However, neither Salman nor Govinda addressed the differences, it was clearly understood that things aren't like before for them. Although, recently, after Govinda made an appearance on the dance reality show Nach Baliye 9, the actor during an interview with a leading daily indirectly hinted that their friendship is intact. For the unversed, Nach Baliye 9 is produced by Salman. Govinda said his friendship with Salman has nothing to do with work. He also added that the Dabangg actor is a 'cool guy'.

“My friendship with Salman has nothing to do with work. I started my career much before and I saw my best for 14 years. After Partner, he had offered me a movie, but I didn’t like the subject. He didn’t get offended. But people said I’m spoiling my relationship (with him) and I was like if it is on the basis of work, it is not a personal relationship, but a professional one. Salman is a cool guy. Now, it is his time,” Govinda told.

If reports are to be believed, Salman's and Govinda's friendship faced a rough patch when the former didn't launch the latter's daughter Tina Ahuja in Dabangg and instead went ahead with casting Sonakshi Sinha. Soon, Salman approached Govinda for the lead role in the Hindi remake of a famous Marathi film which he was supposed to produce. After the actor's denial, the film got shelved. Not just this, before the Dabangg incident, Govinda's filmy career took a sharp dip after Deewana Mastana that featured Salman in a cameo role. Soon, he was offered a role in Partner, which proved to be a jackpot for his career. However, lady luck didn't support him for long as his next venture Salaam-E-Ishq went for a toss. For those caught unaware, it was Salan who suggested Govinda's name to director Nikkhil Advani for the role. Well, these factors clearly seemed to work against the favour of their friendship, leading to years of dispute.
