Taapsee Pannu to play India's first female horse jockey Rupa Singh in her biopic?

Actress Taapsee Pannu is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actresses in Bollywood today. She has impressed the audience and the critics alike with her act in films like Badla, Mulk, Manmarziyaan and the recently-released Game Over. She is all set for the release of Saand Ki Aankh, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar apart from Mission Mangal, which features an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen and Kirti Kulhari. Now we hear that the actress has been approached for the biopic of India's first female horse jockey Rupa Singh. According to a report in an entertainment portal, the project will be helmed by Shivam Nair, who has previously directed Taapsee in Naam Shabana.

"Taapsee has been approached by her Naam Shabana director Shivam Nair for one movie he's been planning for sometime. It's based on the life of India's first female horse jockey Rupa Singh. Shivam has got the rights to her life and is currently workin on the script. He has bounced the idea off to Taapsee who has shown interest. But a bound script is yet to be locked and a narration is pending. But it's an inspirational story about a woman in a profession that's hugely considered a man's world. Similarly, Taapsee has also maintained her dignity and power in a rather patriarchial set up that we have in the industry. So she completely suits the bill," a source close to the development told the website.

If it all goes well, the biopic will reportedly go on floors later next year since Shivam is working on Neeraj Pandey's next web series, followed by Uzma Ahmed biopic, starring Saif Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor. On the other hand, Taapsee too has to wrap up her films and continue the promotions before she can take up next project.

For now, we await an official announcement on the project.
