‘Don’t just tweet about your feelings, do something about it’, says Akshay Kumar motivating others to contribute towards the Assam floods

Today at the trailer launch event of Mission Mangal Akshay Kumar spoke about the contribution he made to CM Relief Fund in Assam and towards Kaziranga Park rescue. The actor has donated Rs 1 crore each Assam Chief Minister's Relief Fund and the Kaziranga National Park to help with the rescue and rehabilitation of flood victims. Talking about the devastating flood at the Mission Mangal trailer launch he also stressed on the fact that we should all come together to help in whatever way we can.

During the trailer launch, when Akshay was asked about his contribution towards the Assam Floods he jokingly said, “Ma'am, mere paas bohot paise hai.” On a serious note he continued, “Maine parso-tarso ek photo dekhi thi, jis mein ek aurat apne bachche ko leke pani ke through nikal rahi thi. I consider it lucky that humare saath aisa nahi hua. When I saw that photograph, I thought yeh mere saath bhi ho sakta hai. Meri biwi aur beti ke saath bhi ho sakta hai. Uss photo mein itna pani tha (indicates chest level) aur bachche ko yahaan leke jaa rahi thi (gestures over his shoulder). Mujhe sirf react nahi karna hai and Twitter par nahi likhna hai ‘so sad and God Bless’, main aap sab se darkhwast karunga ki aap Twitter mat daalo but kuch karo. Jitna aapse ban pade, get up and stop tweeting about it. Chahe woh ek chawanni kyun na ho aur Rs 25 lakh kyun na ho aur Rs 25 crore kyun na ho. Jitna aap de sako, do. Don’t write ‘so sad, God Bless’ react to it.”

Well, this is indeed a very magnanimous and pragmatic lesson from Akshay who has always stepped up for the people of the country whether its through Bharat Ke Veer app or coming to the rescue of Assam floods. We often see celebs and common people tweeting about a dire situation but seldom see them making any real contribution towards a cause.

The actor’s upcoming film Mission Mangal stars Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi, Kriti Kulhari, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha and Nithya Menen. The film is directed by Jagan Shakti and is slated to release on August 15.
