Anurag Basu confirms approaching Deepika Padukone for ‘Imali’ after Kangana Ranaut’s exit

Anurag Basu’s directorial venture Imali is one of the most-talked-about films. The film was supposed to be the reunion of Kangana Ranaut and her mentor Basu but due to date issues, the actress had to exit the project. Later, it was speculated that the director was keen to cast Deepika Padukone in the leading role and now a leading daily has reported that the same has been confirmed by Basu.

When a leading daily asked Basu about Deepika doing the film Imali he confirmed of approaching the actress but said that nothing has been confirmed from her end as of now. Talking about Kangana’s exit from the film, Basu said, “We were supposed to start in November but we couldn't because she got busy with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Panga. Even I got busy with my other film. She wanted to be in good space and time to do this film but things did not work out." Basu also said that he can only confirm about Deepika’s coming on board once the actress herself confirms and signs the film.

Meanwhile, Kangana is looking forward to the release of her film Mental Hai Kya that also stars Rajkummar Rao and also has Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga to look forward to. On the other hand, Deepika will be seen essaying the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her upcoming film Chhapaak that also stars Vikrant Massey and is directed by Meghna Gulzar.
