'Nobody else had the guts to play these characters,' says Shahid Kapoor on his intense roles in ‘Kaminey’, ‘Haider’ and ‘Udta Punjab’

Shahid Kapoor is one of those rare talents in Bollywood who can pull off quirky, intense and out of the box characters. The actor has pulled off psychologically challenging roles with finesse and bowls us each time with his unique choice of films. With Kabir Singh, Shahid is all set to take the box office by storm. During an interview for the film with a media agency, Shahid spoke at length about his choice of films and what draws him to pick up flawed characters. He said nobody in the industry has the guts to pick up roles in films like Udta PunjabHaider and Kaminey. He added that being a star kid, he feels the need to do such characters.

"You’ve to make choices which people around you say aren’t safe. You have to learn to find yourself as an artiste and not try and be like hundred other successful people. Nobody else had the guts to play these characters. Maybe because I am my father’s (Pankaj Kapur) son, I felt the need to play such flawed characters," Shahid told the agency.

Speaking of failures, the Kabir Singh actor said one has to learn to take them sportingly and believe in themselves when no one else does. "Acting has made a man of me. You have to learn to take failure on your chin, to take responsibility for your actions, to deal with the very public rejection and failure. You’ve to learn to believe in yourself when no one else does," Shahid quoted.

Talking about the film Kabir Singh, Kiara Advani will be seen opposite the film that revolves around Kabir, a medical student who falls in love with his junior Preeti, at college. Soon, Preeti gets married to another person, which enrages Kabir so much so that he takes the route of self-destruction to win her back. The film is the official Hindi remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles. Kabir Singh is directed by Sandeep Vanga Reddy and will release on June 21.
