Hum Banaras ke culture mein ekdum ghul gaye hain: Alia Bhatt reveals how the city plays a vital role in Brahmastra, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor

The shooting of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna and others, is currently in full swing in Varanasi. On Friday, the team held a press conference and spoke at the length how the city has a big role to play in their upcoming film and mentioned how they are enjoying Banarasi culture and cuisine to the fullest. Interestingly, this is the first time Ranbir will be seen onscreen with his girlfriend Alia and the first part of Ayan’s fantasy trilogy, Brahmastra also stars Amitabh Bachchan.

During the press conference, when asked how Banaras had been featured in the film, Ranbir said, "The film is inspired by mythological epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharat and Banaras is a very important aspect of it," as quoted by a leading daily. Ayan joined the discussion and pointed out, "Banaras basically woh jagah hai jahan film ke characters saare aa ke ek saath milte hain. The whole adventure of the film begins from Banaras. We are shooting a song here and also a big action scene," adding, "Our endeavour is to show a lot of Banaras in the film. It's a beautiful city and has a soul which we want to showcase in the film."

Not to forget, the lead actors are having a gala time in the holy city. Apart from enjoying the food, Alia and Ranbir also went to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for darshan recently. Sharing her experience in the city, Alia was quoted as saying, "Hum Banaras ke culture mein ekdum ghul gaye hain. I’m having lassi every day. I have to have the chaat and the Banarasi thali on my day off. Toh hum yahan pe poori tarah bass gaye hain. Hum Kashi Vishwanath temple bhi gaye thay shoot khatm karne ke baad subah-subah." Ranbir agreed to what Alia said and maintained, "Ek baar do-teen din aap rahoge Banaras mein toh you’ll understand the soul and the essence of Banaras."

Brahmastra will see Ranbir playing Shiva while Alia will be seen playing a character called Isha. The film was earlier slated to release this Christmas but has now been postponed to 2020.
