20 years of Sooryavansham: Amitabh Bachchan clears misconception of the film being aired frequently; hilarious memes take Twitter by storm

Amitabh Bachchan's film Sooryavansham completed 20 years of its release on Tuesday. However, the film didn't receive much footfall at the theatres but became an instant favourite of viewers sitting at home and watching the film on small screens. Since a very long time, Sooryavansham's frequent TV broadcast raised questions in the minds of avid cinema watchers and claimed that the film was being 'forced' on viewers by a popular film streaming channel. Addressing this issue on the 20th anniversary of the film, a Twitter user shared images of the TRP list of the most watched films on TV on his account. The TRP list indicates that Sooryavansham remains to be a favourite of the audience and isn't being forced upon anyone. Retweeting it, Amitabh agreed to the data.

The user wrote, "There is huge misconception that #Sooryavansham is forced upon viewers by SonyTV, though the fact is its consistent high ratings enabling the frequent telecast. Set Max(or Sony) should make it clear by issuing statement on its record breaking stint on TV since 20 years !!" Amitabh, in response, wrote, "Indeed."

Talking about Sooryavansham, the film stars Amitabh in a double role, one being Bhanupratap Singh and the other being his son Heera. The film revolves around Bhanupratap's hatred towards his son and how the estranged relationships are solved. The film was the official remake of a Tamil film titled Suryavamsam and was directed by E. V. V. Satyanarayana.
