Self-respect is more important: Director Raghava Lawrence steps down from Akshay Kumar's 'Laxmmi Bomb'

It was just yesterday that Akshay Kumar shared his first look from Laxmmi Bomb, the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Kanchana. Co-starring actress Kiara Advani, the film is a horror comedy directed by Raghava Lawrence, who helmed the original film as well. In the eccentric poster, Akshay could be seen applying kohl to his eyes, hinting at some uncoventional storyline. However, within 24 hours of the first look poster release, Raghava decided to quit the project and in a statement on his Twitter handle, he revealed he took the decision as he felt "disrespected" and "disappointed" with the makers.

He wrote, "Hi dear friends and fans, there is an old popular saying in Tamil which tells 'Don't step into any house where there is no respect'. In this world, more than money and fame, self-respect is the most important attribute to a person's character. So I have decided to step out of the project, 'Laxmmi Bomb'," Raghava is seemigly upset about the release of first look poster without his knowledge and in fact, he claimed that he was informed about the release by a third person. "I'm ready to give my script because I personally respect Akshay Kumar sir a lot. They can replace me with some other director according to their wish. Soon I'm going to meet Akshay Kumar sir to give the script and step out of this project in a good way. All the very best to the entire team. I wish the movie a great success," he further wrote.

Not to forget, Raghava had already started shooting for the film and with his exit, Laxmmi Bomb certainly faces a huge blow. Apart from Akshay and Kiara, the Hindi remake will also star actor Tusshar Kapoor. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan will reportedly portray a transgender in the film but there has been no official confirmation on it yet. If everything goes well, Laxmmi Bomb is set to release on June 5, 2020.
