If an IAS’s child can become like him, why can’t Athiya Shetty and Ahan Shetty be actors: Suniel Shetty questions the nepotism debate

Kangana Ranaut added the term ‘nepotism’ to everyone’s vocabulary when she called out Karan Johar on his chat show Koffee With Karan. Since then, her statement that was made in 2017, has taken the entire Bollywood fraternity by storm. Many star kids were mercilessly trolled and had to face the internet’s wrath because of this issue. Suniel Shetty is the latest celebrity to join the bandwagon and voice his opinions on the controversy.

In an interview to a website, Suniel said that kids learn and watch from their parents and that is exactly what his kids Athiya Shetty and Ahan Shetty are doing by joining the Hindi film industry and are following his footsteps. Taking the example of an IAS officer, Suniel said, “An IAS would want his or her child to become an IAS because we are comfortable in that. This is our world, yes they (star kids) get a break, but after first Friday, they have to prove themselves, so it's only unfair."

Suniel blamed social media for adding fuel to the fire and igniting the nepotism debate. He said, “All this debate around nepotism has sparked after social media. Today, people are unreasonable, unhappy, so they unload their frustration on us, so that is why I keep myself away from all this. I use it only to wish good to people. When there is negativity, I don't even respond. I think it's very important for all us to live in a real world than this virtual world created by social media."

Athiya made her debut in 2015 film Hero opposite Sooraj Pancholi and was last seen in Mubarakan with Arjun Kapoor, whereas his son Ahan is all set to debut with RX 100 that also stars Tara Sutaria in the lead.
