Shahid Kapoor’s and Kiara Advani’s upcoming film Kabir Singh’s trailer was launched today amid much fanfare. The film is a remake of the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy. Both Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy are directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The teaser of the film had already wowed the audience and Shahid was applauded for his intense portrayal of a jilted lover. Today, at the trailer launch he spoke about his role and comparison with the original film that had Vijay Deverakonda in the lead.
During the trailer launch event, Shahid was asked how much of his own personality will be seen in Kabir Singh, to this, the actor said, “This is a very special film. Kabir Singh is made straight from the heart and the best films always come from the heart. I think the heart belongs to Sandeep, I don’t know whether it got broke but a lot of shit happened after it got broke and you get to see a lot of that in the world of Kabir Singh. It is a very intense and beautiful love story and please don’t get drawn into the fact that there is a lot of cigarettes and alcohol in it. Sometimes you need to use certain things to show the audience the pain a man is going through.”

He further added, “It’s very different from the characters I have played before and I know everyone thinks that it’s a very edgy role and liking it to Udta Punjab and some portions from Haider. This is a love story, the insanity is because of the fact that the man has a broken heart and there is deep emotion at the heart of the film. The character happens to be very entertaining but it's his emotional arc that even though Arjun Reddy was a cult film and I personally believe that you should not remake cult films. However, I was so inspired by the way Sandeep told the story and the character of Arjun Reddy that is now Kabir Singh that I wanted to take a shot at it and it was too good an opportunity as an actor.”

Talking about the comparisons between Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, Shahid said, “Arjun Reddy agar apne dekhi hai toh who bahut zyada pasand aayi thi logon ko, plus it’s a love story and a story of heartbreak also, so obviously it has emotional moments but overall it is a very beautiful and passionate film. Isko kahin bhi ‘bollywoodized’ word mujhe actually pasand nahi hai because uska matlab kya hota hai I don’t know. The film’s energy and its world have not been changed and the core emotions have been kept same.”
Kabir Singh also stars Kiara Advani in the lead and is scheduled to release on June 21.
