Has Anurag Basu approached Deepika Padukone for the film that was supposed to star Kangana Ranaut?

Filmmaker Anurag Basu has approached Deepika Padukone for his upcoming film that was supposed to star Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, a report in a website claims. The project was tentatively titled Imali and Kangana reportedly opted out of the film due to “confusion of dates”. If the new report is anything to go by, Anurag and Deepika had a “positive discussion” over the film.

Sources also said that “substantial changes” in the script were made after Kangana opted out of the film and that will make the project “crisper and sharper”. So far, no official confirmation has been provided on the report by either Deepika or Anurag.

Last week, a leading daily reported that Anurag might also cast his “favourite” actor Ranbir Kapoor opposite Deepika in a film. Well, let’s see if that turns out to be true.

After Kangana walked out of Imali, Anurag had told a news agency, "She didn't opt. We were supposed to start the film last November. But then (her) Manikarnika schedule got changed. Then I got busy with my current film, and then she got busy with Panga. It started a never-ending dynamo of confusion on dates."

"But we are destined to work together again. I'm sure it will happen sooner or later," Anurag, who had directed Kangana in her debut film Gangster in 2006, had added.

Anurag Basu last directed Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in 2017’s Jagga Jasoos.

Deepika Padukone is currently filming Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, scheduled to release in January 2020.
