Delhi Crime actor Mridul Sharma personally hated playing Jai Singh's character

Making his debut with a negative role in Delhi Crime, Actor Mridul Sharma said that he struggled to connect with the on-screen character of Jai Singh as he hated him personally.

Directed by Richie Mehta, Delhi Crime is based on gruesome 2012 Delhi gangrape in which Mridul plays one of the rapists. Mridul admitted his initial hesitation of performing such a dark and negative character,  "It was a challenge to play this character... At the beginning of my career, playing a character who has done a dirty work that is a shame on humanity.... I was worried about my future, about my image, to be introduced to the audience with the portrayal of such character.

The star on the Netflix hit shared, "I personally hated him, so I was initially unable to get involved with this character." On being asked how his life has changed after Delhi Crime, Mridul, who comes from Chattisgarh said, "The show has given me a very good place to be established as an actor in this industry. People now know me as a good actor and give me respect. After Delhi Crime released, some people have started to offer me a good role."

The cast includes actors Adil Hussain, Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang and Denzil Smith.  The new actor did not feel working with such senior actors was tough and said, "I was working with one of the world's best director at the time of the Delhi Crime. So I will not be able to tell which scene was difficult to shoot. But yes, there was a scene in which my co-actor had to spit on my face, and that was a little uncomfortable." Mridul also shared that one of his films is coming in June and he will soon start working on a web series and a movie too.
