Sanjay Dutt’s upcoming film Kalank is one of the most awaited films of the year and is extremely special for the actor as well. Sanjay plays a formidable and strong character in the film that has a stellar star cast of Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Kunal Kemmu and Aditya Roy Kapur. Apparently, the actor shares a special connection with his father veteran actor Sunil Dutt and his character in Kalank.
Sunil Dutt was one of the most respected actors of Bollywood but not many know that ‘Sunil’ was his screen name and his real name was Balraj Dutt. In Kalank, Sanjay’s character is named Balraj Chaudhry, therefore the character holds a special place in his heart. Talking about his character, Sanjay told a leading daily, “It’s such an irony that my character is named Balraj in Kalank as not many know that my father’s real name was Balraj. The recalling of the name is so close to me, hence, during the shoot, it was a very surreal experience when I was addressed. This character is extremely special for me and I’ll cherish it all my life.”
Sanjay and his father shared a very endearing relationship with each other and felt extremely overwhelmed being called with his father’s name on the sets. Their relationship has been aptly shown in Sanjay’s biopic Sanju that had Ranbir Kapoor as the titular character and Paresh Rawal playing Sunil Dutt’s character.
Kalank is a period drama and is directed by Abhishek Varman. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios. The film is slated to release on April 17.
