The relationship I share with Akshay Kumar in the film is that of equals: Parineeti Chopra on her small yet pivotal role in Kesari

Akshay Kumar’s and Parineeti Chopra’s film Kesari is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. Directed by Anurag Singh and co-produced by Karan Johar under his banner Dharma Productions and Sunir Khetarpal of Azure Entertainment the film’s team held a press meet today to launch its new song Teri Mitti and share more details about the film. Kesari is based on the historic Battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897.

Parineeti, who has a small but pivotal role to play in the film, spoke about her role in Kesari. She said, “I don’t think anyone of us knows so much about that era except maybe Anurag who did extensive research on the film. So I did not want to improvise or do anything out of character in the film. I wanted to be as authentic as possible. Yes, she is a Punjabi girl, a Sardarni, approximate world main janti hoon but kyunki us time ki love story bahut alag hai so is tarah ka character karne mein mujhe bahut maza aaya. At that time there is no hand-holding or looking into each other’s eyes but yet there is equality in the relationship and that has been beautifully shown by Anurag Sir. He hasn’t shown that the husband is superior and the wife is inferior in the relationship, there is a friendship between the two which is shown effectively by Anurag and I loved being a part of it.”

She further said, “Kesari was one film where I did not think of screen time, character and role. When Karan called me to his office and narrated that one line about the film and played the love song for me I instantly said yes. I just wanted to be a part of this film and remember it 50 years down the line. I told them cast me as a tree in the film if you want, I just want to be a part of Kesari. “
