Akshay Kumar's Kanchana remake to be titled as Laxmi; Sobhita Dhulipala to star opposite him?


Akshay Kumar is said to be really excited about his new film which is the remake of hit South film Muni 2: Kanchana, better known as Kanchana. The film was said to have caught Akshay’s attention several years ago when the actor had first seen it. Since that time the actor was really keen to remake it in Hindi and looks like it is finally happening.

Latest reports suggest that the horror-comedy is titled, Laxmi which will showcase Akshay playing a transgender in the possessed avatar if the actor sticks to the South film’s original plot. According to trade sources, Akshay will start the work on this film once he completes Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi which will release by the end of this year.

Talking about the Kanchana remake, reports are claiming that the makers have roped in actress Sobhita Dhulipala to be the lead in the film. Sobhita is currently busy with her upcoming Netflix series Bard Of Blood and will be next seen in Amazon's show Made In Heaven. Sources further revealed that the horror comedy will be produced by Shabina Khan and Tusshar Kapoor. Filming will mostly begin later this year; with the original film director Raghava Lawrence likely to direct the remake.

Back in 2007, Akshay had done a horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa and it is after 12 years that he is revisiting the genre.
