For the unversed, Thackeray narrates Bal Thackeray’s journey and his political career as he established Shiv Sena – a Hindu right-wing Marathi ethnocentric party. Not to forget, the Shiv Sena supremo was immensely popular amongst his followers, particularly in Maharashtra as he espoused the rights of the Marathas in his state.

Directed by Abhijit Panse and written by Sanjay Raut, Thackeray co-stars Amrita Rao as Meena Tai Thackeray apart from featuring actors like Sudhir Mishra among others. The film is locking horns with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, which casts Kangana Ranaut as Rani Laxmibai.
