Worked hard to create our identity: Deepika says no surname change for Ranveer and her

DeepVeer shaadi done. But the obsession isn’t. More so because details and stuff as such end up emerging almost every other day through interviews of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. For example, several quarters reported that after her wedding to Ranveer, Deepika will change her surname but during her interview with a leading daily, the actress said that she as well as her husband have never even thought about it.

Also, Deepika, during one of her interviews after her wedding, had insinuated in jest, that Ranveer might alter his surname as well. “It’s not true. In fact, after that interview I realised that it’s a conversation Ranveer and I’ve never even had. So, we haven’t been like, ‘oh, do you think you should change your surname?’ That (chat about it in an interview) was, of course, a candid joke of sorts. It has never crossed either of our minds,” Deepika told the daily.

Moreover, Deepika added that she has worked “extremely hard” to establish her identity as has Ranveer – so changing surnames isn’t the need of the hour at all.

“When I was asked about it, I was like, ‘oh, we haven’t even thought about it’. Maybe because it’s not important. Also, I’ve worked extremely hard to create my own identity and so has he. So, my question is, ‘why would he have to do that?’ I think what people see of us is a very minuscule part of our entire being and existence. But at the core of it, we are very alike,” Deepika added.

Ranveer and Deepika married in Italy in a two part-wedding – in a Konkani ceremony on November 14 and in a traditional Anand Karaj on November 15, 2018.

Workwise, Deepika will soon begin filming Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Ranveer’s last film Simmba emerged as a blockbuster – he is currently gearing up for the release of Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, scheduled for release on February 14.
