PeepingMoon2018: From Raazi to Gold, films that impressed critics and fans!

2018 was a tough year for actors as far as proving their mettle went, considering critics and fans weren't quite pleased with the films that released. However, some, like Padmaavat, Raazi, Stree and AndhaDhun, made their mark at the box-office while critics appraised these films as well.

Here’s a look at some of those films that impressed in 2018:

Padmaavat

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, was appreciated for its brilliant performances by the entire cast. Fringe outfits in Rajasthan protested against the release of the film and also threatened to physically assault Deepika but eventually, Padmaavat managed to see the light of the day and earned INR 302.15 crore at the box-office.

PadMan

The film had Akshay Kumar playing Tamil Nadu social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, celebrated for introducing a machine that generated affordable sanitary napkins. Set in rural India, Muruganantham was appraised widely since he undertook the onus of reforming hygiene in the state. PadMan was received well by critics and the film fared well at the box-office, with total collections of INR 81.82 crore.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

Luv Ranjan's film had a cast of Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh in principal roles and emerged as an instant hit. Not only did critics enjoy watching the film, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety catapulted Kartik to another level of stardom. The film swiftly crossed the INR 100 crore mark and earned a total of INR 108.95 crore!

Raid

This Ajay Devgn starrer, inspired by the income-tax raid conducted by officers of the department under the leadership of the upright Indian Revenue Service officer in the ‘80s, received a whole lot of love from fans and critics – not just for the plot but also the soundtrack. Raid earned INR 103.07 crore at the box-office.

Hichki

Rani Mukerji's comeback vehicle Hichki in which she appeared as a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome garnered enough love from fans and critics. The film earned INR 46.21 crore.

Baaghi 2

Ahmed Khan's Baaghi 2, starring Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani, emerged as an instant hit soon after its release. Although critics weren't thoroughly impressed with the film, Baaghi 2 received a whole lot of love from fans as it earned INR 164.38 at the box office.

Raazi

We might as well admit that Raazi is our personal favourite. Meghna Gulzar's film cast Alia Bhatt as a Kashmiri girl who marries a Pakistani Army officer, in order to turn spy, to provide inside information about the neighbouring country to protect her own. Everybody loved Raazi including critics and fans – precisely why the film earned INR 123.84 crore at the box-office.

Mulk

Anubhav Sinha's Mulk, starring Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu, in the pivotal roles, narrated the story of a Muslim family trying to reclaim its lost honour. Apart from earning INR 21.10 crore at the box office, Mulk was also appraised by critics.

Veere Di Wedding

When you have Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania in a film, expect drama and super fun! That is exactly what fans got a dose of in Veere Di Wedding. Tareefan, the song from the film, emerged as a super hit party track, while Veere Di Wedding earned INR 81.39 crore at the box-office.

Sanju

Everybody awaited Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju - the biopic on controversial actor Sanjay Dutt…ever since pictures of Ranbir Kapoor dressed as the senior actor on the set, surfaced on social media. Critics were floored with Ranbir's fantastic portrayal of Sanjay Dutt while Sanju was a blockbuster and emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of the year - it earned INR 342.53 crore at the box-office.

Gold

Cast as hockey team manager Tapan Das in the Reema Kagti-directed film, Gold dated back to 1948, when Tapan (Akshay Kumar) dreamed of winning a gold medal at the Olympics for India as a free nation. Critics loved Akshay's performance in the film, and this also marked Mouni Roy's debut in Bollywood. Gold earned INR 104.72 crore at the box-office.

Stree

Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, this film could easily be termed as one of the most popular films of 2018. Based on a female ghost who exists in Chanderi town, Stree not only did good business but also impressed critics with its watertight script. The film earned INR 129.90 crore at the box-office.

AndhaDhun

If the opinions on Twitter opinion are to be considered, AndhaDhun, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte, was elevated to the status of the best film of the year! Directed by Sriram Raghavan, it won four honours at the Star Screen Awards. And do we even need to mention, critics were overwhelmed with the thriller as well? The film earned INR 74.58 crore at the box-office.

Badhaai Ho

Ayushmann Khurrana had a fantabulous year with his two films - AndhaDhun as well as Badhaai Ho, impressing critics as well as fans. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Badhaai Ho cast Ayushmann as the son of an elderly couple, who discover that they would be turning parents for the third time. Badhaai Ho earned INR 137.59 crore at the box office.

Simmba

Rohit Shetty's latest offering with Ranveer Singh playing the cop Sangram Bhalerao has been winning hearts since the first day of its release, on December 28. Not only did Ranveer impress with his classic performance, Simmba was applauded by critics for its definite plot. It emerged as Ranveer's biggest opening so far and has earned INR 75.11 crore within three days of its release.

Apart from the aforementioned, films including Tumbbad, Blackmail, Mukkabaaz and Manmarziyaan, was also appreciated by fans.
