Is Akshay the villain or a hero in 2.0? Rajnikant says he is both

Is Akshay Kumar the villain of Shankar’s upcoming sci-fi thriller 2.0 or in some unexpected twist to the much-anticipated film, a parallel hero? The question is being asked after South superstar and Akshay’s 2.0 co-star Rajnikant said in an interview recently, “Akshay’s super villain role is more important than my characters Vaseegaran and Chitti in 2.0.” He then added, “Akshay is the hero and the villain.”

Kollywood sources say this is not a case of Rajnikant being his usual generous self in his praise of co-stars. The film, a sequel to his 2010 super hit Enthiran, has been in the making for three years. Its release got delayed because of VFX work in the film involving major Hollywood studios.

Rajnikant, speaking on Akshay, said the Bollywood superstar is a very patient and committed actor. “If I were Akshay, I would have been fed up of this film,” he said. “But Akshay has worked very hard for 2.0 and with unimaginable patience. No amount of praise is enough to match his work in the film. His character will be talked about very highly.”
Sources believe that Akshay, who plays an eccentric scientist named Dr. Richard in 2.0, loses his appearance and becomes crazy and turns into a crow after an experiment goes wrong. But it is being said that the character, for which Akshay had to undergo a complete makeover every day on the sets, is that of somebody who wants to save the world from cell phone radiation.

Maybe that is why Rajnikant referred to Akshay as the hero of 2.0. Since both superstars are not revealing anything about the film, fans continue to wait in suspense. The film, which releases on November 29, has cost Rs. 543 crore approximately to make. Akshay, who shares fresh posters of 2.0 on Instagram, said, “2.0 is an unlimited effort of more than 3,000 technicians from around the world.”
