I was first offered Salman Khan’s role in Maine Pyar Kiya: Piyush Mishra

Salman Khan achieved cult status when he essayed the role of Prem in Sooraj Barjatya’s super hit film Maine Pyar Kiya. The film catapulted Salman to become the nation’s heartthrob after its release. He received a tremendous fan following that is still maintained even after decades. However, can you imagine anyone else doing Salman’s role in the film? Well, apparently Piyush Mishra was first offered the role but fortunately for Salman and unfortunately for him, he declined it.

Mishra in a media interaction on the first day of the three-day literature festival, Sahitya Aaj Tak 2018, revealed this hard-to-believe truth. He said, “I really don't know why I did not do Maine Pyar Kiya. Director Sooraj Barjatya had called me. I did not go. The lead actress, Bhagyashree, was already selected. The lead actor wasn't final. Barjatya wanted to launch me. I looked good those days. But I really do not know why I did not take the offer. I am not a fool to let an opportunity like this pass. People say I didn't do it for my love for theatre but that is not true. I should have done it.”

He further added, “I don't think about what could have happened if I had taken that up." Well, talk about losing out on a golden opportunity. We’re sure Mishra must have cried bitter tears after the film became a super hit. The actor found commercial success at 46 years of age after he did Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur.
