24th Kolkata International Film Festival: Shah Rukh, Amitabh Bachchan inaugurate the event

Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the prestigious 24th Kolkata International Film Festival 2018 (KIFF) today. Mamata Banerjee even took to Twitter a few hours back and announced about the KIFF.

The inauguration programme will be attended by famous Iranian director Majid Majidi, Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Soumitra Chatterjee, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh who is the brand ambassador for the state, Waheeda Rehman, Nandita Das, Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Bhatt.

The highlight of this year’s festival is 100 years of Bengali cinema and films of legends like Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and others will be showcased. Australia is the theme country this year and will be represented by film editor Jill Elizabeth Bilcock and filmmakers Phillip Noyce and Simon Becker. On the other hand, Tunisia is going to be the special focus country.

Shah Rukh’s upcoming film Zero that also features Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead will also be premiered at KIFF. SRK will unveil the trailer of the film today at the inauguration followed by a speech on cinema. The film is directed by Aanand L Rai and is slated to hit theatres on December 21.
