Alia is treating it like it’s her own work: Sister Shaheen Bhatt on debut novel

Shaheen Bhatt’s sisters Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt, and parents Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan are elated with the release of her debut novel I’ve Never Been (Un)Happier, in which she has detailed her battle with depression. In an interview with a leading daily, Shaheen said that her family had read the book while she was drafting it and were in full support of it.

“They read it months ago when it was in the drafting stage. I am lucky to have the most supportive and encouraging family in the world... my parents, my sisters and brother,” Shaheen told the daily.

Alia, in fact, is delighted with the book and is treating it as if it’s her own creation, in Shaheen’s words. The book, indeed, is special for Shaheen considering the fact that she has elaborated on her struggle that she has been enduring the wrath of since the past 17 years. Moreover, Shaheen also said that she has written the book in a manner as such that it can be completed at one go.

“Honestly, my sisters are more excited about it than me. Alia is treating it like it’s her own work. This book is my heart laid bare on a page. It’s about the last 16-17 years of my life - about how it began, how I learnt about it and everything that has happened since then. It’s a short format book and it’s designed in such a way that you can read it in one sitting. Books on mental health can be intense and difficult to get through, so we wanted people to understand as much as they could within a short span of time,” Shaheen added.

After reading the book, Alia had posted a beautiful message for Shaheen:
