In the wake of #MeToo, Parineeti opens up about the benefit of working with Yash and Aditya Chopra

It’s been seven years since Parineeti Chopra made her debut in the film industry with Yash Raj Films’ Ladies vs Ricky Bahl in 2011 and her career in the film industry has been considerably smooth. In an interview with a leading daily, Parineeti reiterated that since she began work under producer Aditya Chopra and “under the leadership” of his father Yash Chopra, no one “dared to do anything immoral” with her.

Parineeti, who is Priyanka Chopra’s cousin sister, was asked if she felt protected from the ‘predators in the industry’ considering the fact that she belongs to a star’s family and was also launched by a top studio, in response to which she shared her experience.

“I started my career under the leadership of Yash and Aditya Chopra. No one would dare to do anything immoral to anyone working with them,” Parineeti told the daily.

Questions on the lines of safety at workplace emerged in the backdrop of the #MeToo movement that has encompassed the country since the last month. While speaking to the daily, Parineeti also said that the environment at work is different at present as the film industry is “young and cool”.

“At the start of my career, my dad was skeptical and had asked me if I need my mother to be with me all the time. I told him that times have changed. The working environment in the film industry is young and cool now. There are more women on a film set than men,” Parineeti added.

The #MeToo movement in India was escalated by Tanushree Dutta’s accusation of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar where several women outed filmmakers and actors as well as alleged sexual predators. So far, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Vikas Bahl and Rajat Kapoor have also been accused of sexual harassment.

Parineeti is currently gearing up for the release of her new film Namaste England opposite Arjun Kapoor, scheduled to release on October 19.
