Chetan Bhagat issues an apology after screenshot shows him trying to ‘woo’ woman

Since Friday, several Indian women from various fields have taken to Twitter to speak up about sexual abuse and harassment that they have faced at the workplace or on social media. Allegations have been made by many against many prominent and well-known names, including stand-up comedians, senior journalists, editors, and even a well-known author.Journalist Sheena who goes by the Twitter handle @weeny have been compiling these allegations on her Twitter page that includes screenshots of lewd, offensive and unwarranted conversations shared by women anonymously.

Now, a conversation has surfaced that is between author Chetan Bhagat and an unidentified woman. In the screenshot posted on Twitter, Chetan says that he is trying to “woo” the woman since she is “sweet and cute and funny and a nice human being". The woman reminds him that he is married but he persists with the unwelcome attention that he tries to bestow upon her. However, Chetan went ahead today and issued an apology about the entire incident and also confirmed that the screenshots are true.

Chetan wrote a post on his Facebook page apologizing to the woman concerned and his wife Anusha. The conversation is not in the #MeToo category as it is not lewd or derogatory but it does show that Chetan digressed. Check out his full apology below.

Over the past two days, several accounts of sexual harassment have been posted on social media. AIB stand-up comedian Utsav Chakraborty was called out for sending lewd pictures to women and even minor girls. AIB issued an apology and removed all the videos of the comedian from their channel. The allegations have started pouring out after actress Tanushree Dutta spoke up again about how veteran actor Nana Patekar sexually harassed and intimidated her on the sets f the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleasss. Since then, many celebrities have come forward to show support to Tanushree in her #MeToo battle.
