Gulzar wants a biopic made on his life; is anybody listening?

Biopics are the rage in Bollywood these days, every other actor or director is planning to either make or star in a biopic. Sportsmen and even underworld dons are the objects of filmmakers’ affection these days. Mary Kom, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Dangal, PadMan, Sanju, Manto, Soorma, Super 30, ’83 are just some of the biopics that have found a place on celluloid. Now, noted lyricist and director Gulzar want a biopic to be made on him.

Gulzar Saab as he is fondly known said this at the launch event of newspapers Prajatantra and First Print (tabloid) at Indore. While he was interacting with Divya Dutta during a media session he said, “Nowadays biopic is the trend, I want someone to make a biopic on me.” Whether any filmmaker has thought of making a film on the enigmatic and iconic poet-lyricist that is not sure, but it does seem a novel idea.

Gulzar does not only pen lyrics for songs but is an acclaimed director and poet as well. He is also a recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2004. He has won several National Awards, Filmfare Awards and even a Grammy Award in his prestigious career. A biopic on the legendary poet will be definitely worth the watch.

We wonder whether Gulzar has shared this idea with his trusted friend and protégé director Vishal Bharadwaj or no because we feel that since he is one of the closest to him he will definitely make a great film. Although his daughter Meghna Gulzar is also a safe bet. Hopefully, someone will lap it up and we get to see a biopic made on the 84-year-old.
