Rishi Kapoor won’t be able to attend mother Krishna’s cremation

There has been considerable drama in the 45-year-old acting career of Rishi Kapoor. And he’s done everything on screen from romance, musicals and comedy to action, fantasy and adventure. Even tragedy. But nothing like what life cruelly selected for the veteran actor this morning by snatching away his mother, Krishna Raj Kapoor, when Rishi was unable to be by her side.

If that was not tragic enough, Rishi we understand will not be able to attend the last rites of his mother this evening when the mortal remains of Krishnaji are consigned to the flames at the Chembur crematorium close to R. K. Studios. The actor, who turned 66 last month, is in New York, and being treated for an illness that’s got all of Bollywood worried and crossing its fingers.

He left suddenly on Saturday, after tweeting mysteriously, “Hello all! I am taking a short leave of absence from work to go to America for some medical treatment. I urge my well-wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. It’s been 45 years plus of wear and tear at the movies. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon!”

Sources say Rishi will not be able to attend the cremation because the US is a long distance away from home and his own treatment has already begun. He cannot leave it incomplete. Meanwhile, Krishnaji’s daughter Ritu Nanda who stays in Delhi is similarly afflicted like Rishi and will also not be able to attend her mother’s cremation. It’s heartbreaking, to say the least…
