It was like a nikaah: Abhishek Bachchan on his patch-up with Anurag Kashyap

Recently, Abhishek Bachchan and Anurag Kashyap had revealed how the latter hated the former’s act in Yuva which is probably one of the best performances of Abhishek’s and earned him accolades and acclaim. The actor-director duo also revealed that because of this they did not talk to each other for years. However, Abhishek and Anurag decided to let bygones be bygones and once again came together for Aanand L Rai’s film Manmarziyaan. In a new interview, the two spoke about their past differences and how they patched up before working together in the film.

During a recent interview with a popular film critic, Abhishek said that he agreed to do Manmarziyaan the second he was told that Anurag was going to direct it regardless of their tiff. Abhishek also spoke about the interesting pairing of Anurag with writer Kanika Dhillon, “I knew it was going to fly.” He further added, “I went home and told Aishwarya (his wife) that I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to do a film.” He said about the patch-up, “This so-called reconciliation was like a ‘nikaah’. A long time back at a Diwali party we sat and talked about it.”

On the other hand, when Anurag was asked whether he had any apprehensions about reconnecting with Abhishek, he said that initially, he thought that the studio was oblivious of their rocky past and he requested a meeting first. Talking about their not-so-cordial relationship, Anurag said, “They all knew. Everybody thought there was tension, but our tension was resolved years ago. Once we sat across (from each other) it was all clear.”

Abhishek had worked in Mani Ratnam directed Yuva which was written by Anurag. He recently revealed during an interview, “That’s history now. I first worked with Anurag in Mani Ratnam’s Yuva; he had written it. I don’t think he liked my work in the film. And it’s only fair because we had spent a lot of time doing readings for the film. So somewhere, maybe he felt a little disappointed when he watched the movie. But we never spoke about it. Now, we’ve put all that behind us.”

Besides Manmarziyaan that also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal and releases on September 14, Abhishek and Anurag are also collaborating on Gulab Jamun that will also feature Abhishek’s wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead.
