Quentin Tarantino’s-Uma Thurman’s Kill Bill gets Bollywood flavour by Nikhil Dwivedi

Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill starring Uma Thurman released fourteen years ago but is still fresh in the minds of the audience with its gripping story, amazing action sequences, the gorefest and the blood. The film is one of the most profitable and celebrated films of Tarantino and revolved around a deadly assassin known as ‘The Bride’. Now, the latest buzz is that the franchise is getting a desi makeover.  A leading daily reported that Nikhil Dwivedi’s production house has bagged the remake rights for the two-part series.

The leading daily reported that a spokesperson for Nikhil who recently co-produced Veere Di Wedding alongside Anil Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor, and Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor confirmed the news.

Kill Bill: Volume 1 released in 2003 and became a stupendous hit. It introduces Uma as the deadliest woman assassin in the world who swears to take revenge on her previous gang mates and their leader Bill after they try to kill her and her unborn child. The film made on a budget of $30 million raked in over $180 million at the box office. The sequel Kill Bill: Volume 2 was actually made as a single release but was divided into two given its runtime of four hours was also successful and received commercial and critical acclaim. Besides Uma, the film also stars Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, and Vivica A. Fox and David Carradine.

Kill Bill was made as an homage to “grindhouse” cinema including martial arts films, samurai cinema, blaxploitation films, and spaghetti westerns. It also features anime sections by Production IG. The film since its release has achieved a cult status and has earned a place in the popular culture as well.
