Laila Majnu Trailer: Breathtaking locales and new star cast brings the iconic story to life

Imtiaz Ali and Ekta Kapoor are back in the game with their retelling of the iconic and enigmatic legendary story of Laila Majnu. The trailer for their film Laila Majnu has just been released and it surely brings goosebumps. The film introduces two new names - Tripti Dimri and Avinash Tiwary - and as Imtiaz Ali said, “No famous surnames, no film background, Laila & Majnu had to be one of you!" and we certainly agree with the filmmaker. The new star cast with the help of breathtaking locales brings the iconic story to life and tries to answer why some love stories live on forever.

The film’s trailer showcases the landscapes of Kashmir and brings to fore the timeless love story of Laila-Majnu. Directed by Sajid Ali, the story has been penned by Imtiaz Ali. The trailer gives us a glimpse of the love story between the two protagonists and how even though coming from warring families the two could not end their relationship.

Avinash and Tripti look fresh in the trailer. Tripti looks pretty but it is Avinash who steals the scenes. His dialogue delivery is praiseworthy and his voice is truly magnificent. The film’s dialogues are also funny and in one such instance Avinash pokes fun at himself saying, “Main smart banne ke liye bahut mehnat karta hoon, shakal achi nahi hai na.” Avinash is not the quintessential chocolaty hero that we’ve generally seen portraying the character of Majnu in previous films but he does do justice to the role by showcasing the madness that one feels while in a thrilling and exulting love. This Laila Majnu film does not have any trappings of the previous adaptations and looks more promising than the earlier ones.

Imtiaz wanted a fresh approach with raw new talent and a new director to helm the film. He felt that it would be refreshing to see how a new director could carry his vision through as he knew how he wanted to direct the film. Imtiaz said, “I felt It was important that the actors & director came on set unaware of the trappings of Bollywood and yet uninhibited. I told Ekta it was a risk and I think that’s what excited her even more!”
