I feel like I am on fire; the craft is limitless: Ranveer Singh opens up about outrageous choices

Bright colours, poster printed suits, long skirts, bald look to overly grown hair, tank tops to unusual glasses... Ranveer Singh is the definition of quirky and eternally enthusiastic. This year has been a rollercoaster ride. From Padmaavat controversies to having his kitty filled with films, he is riding on the high of his success. But not everything has been flowers and roses for the actor. He, too, had his own share of ups and downs.

In a recent interview with a leading daily he mentioned, "I was so physically and emotionally exhausted at the end of Padmaavat’s shoot that I was waiting to be liberated. Gully Boy was my saviour, it saved me from myself. The minute I gave the last shot of Padmaavat, something switched inside me. The very next day, I started work on Gully Boy. Also, I think I had to move on to something immediately for my own sanity."

Gully Boy is Zoya Akhtar's directorial film based on the lives of Vivian D'souza a.k.a Divine and Naved Shaikh a.k.a Naezy. The two are rappers, from Mumbai, who have contributed immensely to the Hip Hop scene in the city in very little time. Ranveer, who will be essaying one of the two, said "I started spending time with Zoya, reading the script and meeting the rapper boys. It is the best thing that I could do for myself. We would jam on raps, and spend time with them at their hangout places, meet their friends and talk for hours. What I realized during the process is that this is so close to who I am. After all, I am a Mumbai ka ladka. The rapper boys were surprised to see that… yeh toh hamari bhasha bolta hai. The minute I started hanging out with them, I knew I had slipped into the character."

He is often seen in the city rocking his weird attires and eternally enthusiastic attitude. From clicking pictures with his fans to posing for the paparazzi, Ranveer will always be ready to put up a show. When asked about it, he stated, "That’s the showman in me. That’s me with my entertainer hat on, which is also a part of the real me. I love to make people happy, I love to entertain. Over a period of time, I have received so much of love and appreciation from people that it has really made me a grounded person. There is a constant stream of energy flowing out of me, this phase of my life is creatively so exciting; I feel like I am on fire. The more work I do, I realize how limitless the craft is. The more I feel hungry to explore, I realize that time is not enough for the kind and variety of roles that I want to play."

'Baba' as Ranveer is fondly called, has wrapped up filming for Zoya's film with Alia Bhatt and is currently filming for Rohit Shetty's Simmba.
