We have paid homage to Sairat with Dhadak: Karan Johar

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak released last week and the film which is an official Hindi remake of Sairat is doing very well at the box office. Within a week of its release, the film is all set to cross the Rs 50 crore mark. Today at the success meet for the film Karan Johar, who has produced the film under his Dharma Productions banner had some honest praise for his director and his two new stars.

While talking about the mixed reviews that Dhadak has received due to comparisons with the original, Karan said, “We have paid homage to Sairat with Dhadak. I apologize to anyone who feels offended but this film was like a fan's (Shashank Khaitan) tribute to an amazing film.” He further added, “Sairat blew off my mind, but Dhadak equally gripped me.” Heaping praise on his director Shashank Khaitan, Karan said, “Shashank has made me super proud."

Karan also spoke about the success that the film has received at the box office. "It is an exceptional feat that the film has seen the biggest opening for newcomers; the only closest competitor was Student of the Year," added Karan. SOTY, introduced Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, and Sidharth Malhotra. Dhadak is the debut film of Janhvi and second film of Ishaan, and the two young actors are reaping accolades for their performance in the film. Karan applauded his young actors and said during the success meet, “These kids are more grateful to Gaiety Galaxy audience reactions than friends’ and family from industry. These bachchas have turned massy now.”

Dhadak was one of the most anticipated films of the year. The hype around the two new stars was paramount because of the film stars that they are related to. All eyes were on Janhvi, especially because her mother was veteran actress Sridevi and father is Boney Kapoor. On the other hand, Ishaan came under the scanner because he is the half-brother of superstar Shahid Kapoor. However, the way the film has been accepted by the public it looks as if the new stars have successfully passed their examination and are looking forward to a successful inning in Bollywood.
