Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan to reunite after eight years in 'Gulab Jamun'

Real-life husband and wife Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have not been seen together on the silver screen since Mani Ratnam’s Raavan (2010). However, there is some good news for their fans. The couple might star in producer Anurag Kashyap’s Gulab Jamun. The slice-of-life film is drama-comedy. Discussion started a couple of years ago but Abhishek and Aishwarya who were interested in the project had some reservations about the script. There were reports that the couple had turned down the film but it turns out that they are very much a part of the project and were only waiting for the developments on the script.

The film is written by Sarvesh Mewara, who will also headline the project. An official announcement by the Phantom Films banner is in the works. The project was on hold because the script was being fleshed out and nitty-gritty’s like remuneration and dates were being worked out.

Reportedly, Abhishek and Aishwarya grow into an elderly couple but the twist is that they won’t be sporting white hair and appear old in Gulab Jamun. The film might star Amitabh Bachchan who will essay the role of an older Abhishek. However, the hunt for the actress who will play an older Aishwarya is still on as Jaya Bachchan who was approached for the role declined.

Aishwarya and Abhishek first shared screen space in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke which was followed by Kuch Naa Kaho, Umrao Jaan, Dhoom 2 and Guru. It was during the shooting of Umrao Jaan and Guru the actors came closer to each other and fell in love. After the release of Guru which was directed by Mani Ratnam, the actors announced their decision to marry in 2007. They also worked together in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj in which they shared screen space with Amitabh as well.
