Karan Johar blasts casting rumours: “Everything is hearsay”

Last month, before filmmaker-producer Karan Johar could leave to bring in his birthday in New York, he had discussed his next plan of action. Revealing that he would soon return to direction, he had shared, “I have locked a screenplay and I am going to direct a film around mid-next year. I look forward to casting for it as soon as I come back from New York.”

He has been back since a while now but no update on what everyone wants to hear: whom has Karan cast!

Rumours have been a-swirl. One maintained that he would launch Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s daughter Suhana. Another one suggested that he would direct his fave Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor together in his forthcoming project. He was even rumoured to be on the verge of making an official announcement to the same on social media. In the midst of this expectation, Karan did reach out to make an announcement; but it’s far from what was expected. He has tweeted, “Lots of conjecture and unnecessary stories on my directorial next. Just to make clear, not a single actor has heard or read the script of my next film. Everything you read or hear is hearsay.”

In the midst of producing a barrage of big films including Brahmastra, Dhadak, Kalank and Rannbhoomi, Karan did wield the director’s baton for a short film in the Lust Stories omnibus for Netflix. He had shared his excitement, gushing, “A theme of lust….a new age and dynamic platform…the company of prolific filmmakers…the vision of Ashi Dua and Ronnie Screwvala made this experience immensely sexy and satisfying! (no pun intended)…Lust Stories breaks ground and even tears the envelope at times! This one is worth the price of a subscription!”

Starring Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Neha Dhupia, his tale focused on the need to embrace inner desires, unapologetically. It turned out to be the most entertaining. We expect nothing less from his next!
