ED summons Shilpa Shetty's husband Raj Kundra in bitcoin scam

Actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s husband Raj Kundra was summoned and questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with a Bitcoin scam that the ED is probing. The Income Tax Department has been investigating a scam related to bitcoins and had recently sent notices to bitcoin users who were dealing in bitcoins worth Rs 1 crore or more daily. The names that came up during investigations have been forwarded to ED. An inquiry is underway to probe into possible money laundering and fraud.

Kundra has reached the Eenforcement Directorate's office and registered his statement earlier today. The main accused in the case Amit Bharadwaj has been arrested from Pune and Kundra’s name came into light when Pune Crime branch and ED found out that a lot Bollywood celebrities along with Kundra have been trying to promote such bitcoin schemes. Amit Bharadwaj, had made a website called gatbitcoin.com through which he duped several people. The scam amount was found to be Rs 2000 crore. Apparently, evidence against Kundra have been found and he was asked for questioning pertaining to them.

Although the nature of Kundra’s questioning has not been made clear, he is not new to controversies or police interrogation. As co-owner of the Indian Premiere League franchise team Rajasthan Royals he was previously embroiled in the infamous IPL betting scandal. He is currently serving a life-ban from all cricket-related activities. However, in March he did file an appeal in Supreme Court challenging the ban. Rajasthan Royals was banned for two years and made a comeback in the recently concluded IPL season.
